More than 200 local Foundation supporters are expected to participate to help raise the $35,000 needed to grant the wishes of seven local children with life-threatening medical conditions. PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE beginning at 11:00 AM at the Enterprise Mill covered pavilion. Augusta wish child, Easton, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in October 2001. When asked for his fondest wish, Easton said he wanted to be a paleontologist. A trip to Washington was exactly what this strong young man needed to get him away from doctors and hospitals. Easton’s wish was granted, and his family was flown to D. C. After the special trip, which included private tours of the Smithsonian and VIP treatment, Easton became the local ambassador for Make-A-Wish, sharing his story and serving as an enthusiastic inspiration for all of. Easton will be at the event on April 16th, and will say hello to the walkers. Walkers can participate individually or team up with family, friends, classmates and co-workers. The 5k loop (approximately 3 miles) is at the Augusta Canal and features historic points-of-interest signs along the way. At the conclusion of the walk, participants can enjoy kids activities, refreshments, and half-price admission to the new Augusta Canal Interpretive Center and Learning Museum. Participants who raise $50 or more in sponsorships will receive a free Walk for Wishes T-shirt. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. It is the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 74 chapters in the United States and its territories and 28 international affiliates on five continents. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama has been granting wishes since 1986. As one of the fastest growing chapters in the country, it operates on a budget of $3.7 million and 80% of all funds are used for granting wishes to children. ### |
